Thoughts: Well, I honestly don't have much to say about this complete waste of time called “Perfect”. This new album from Hot Head Show is one of the worst things my ears have ever heard. These UK “rockers” have a unique approach, that's for sure. But you know what? That's not always a good thing.
Perfect (2013) is a random bunch of meaningless songs about meaningless subjects. Yes, we get to hear songs about kitties and sex (not in the same song), doctors and rebel girls, and sex and animals (yes, in the same song). In other words, it's juvenile garbage.
“But,” you say, “I only care about the music”. Okay, then. Let's talk about that. This album has some interesting style. It is VERY bass-driven. At times, I thought there were multiple bassists. It is heavy-handed for sure, but it can be enjoyable. The guitar style is purely indie, but on the more punk end of the spectrum. And, with some fairly unremarkable drumming, the music just comes across as average indie. It's inventive at times, and I think that's the reason this album doesn't get the absolute worst rating I could give it. There are some interesting moments, but it's mainly competent indie rock. The band calls itself “art rock”, but I really can't see either the art in it or the difference from indie.
So, there you have it. It's not the worst 2013 album I heard, but it's close. The music is capable at times, but the album is again and again brought down by asinine lyrics. It wouldn't be so bad if the lyrics were vague or low-key, but this band is remarkably forceful with their crappy words. So, if you don't mind the lyrics, it could be an good indie album to hear. If you care about the whole package, avoid this stinker.
The band was included in our Podcast #27 and you can listen 'Kansas' HERE.
