Oxhuitza - New Album
Oxhuitza is an instrumental project created in February 2011 by guitarist and composer Luca Bassignani, at that time stationed in London. After spending a few months playing around in the English town Luca returned to Italy and decide to start his project.

Within a month, thanks also to Gabriele Guidi (keyboards), Luca record the songs that will be included in the first official demo.
The demo has a good following and after about a year, thanks to the interest of MIRROR, Luca enters at Hilary studio in Genoa for the recordings of the first album of his project: Oxhuitza (2013).
Assisted by the artistic direction of Fabio Zuffanti, Luca's ideas are clothed with lush arrangements ranging from symphonic prog to psychedelia, hard-crimsonic atmospheres, ethnic and fusion touches.
The result is an album diverse and full of surprises where is easy to lose your bearings for the many subtleties and peculiarities that surprise the listener in this labyrinthine path. Instrumental music but with an originality and sophistication that has few equals at the time.
In the studio Luca was joined by Carlo Barreca (bass), Rossano Villa and Gabriele Guidi (keyboards), Christian Giannarelli (drums).

Available to buy HERE.

Jeff Lynne & Electric Light Orchestra - Remasters
Just as the third quarter of 2012 brought three exciting works from Jeff Lynne - his second solo album Long Wave (2012), the freshly recorded Mr. Blue Sky - The Very Best Of Electric Light Orchestra (2012) and the illuminating documentary “Mr. Blue Sky: The Story of Jeff Lynne and ELO”- 2013 will be marked by more treats from the creative force of ELO and one of rock’s most iconic figures.

On April 19th in Europe (April 22nd in the UK) and April 23rd in North America, Frontiers Records will release three albums, two by Electric Light Orchestra: Live (2013) and Zoom (2001) (remastered and including a brand new track). And one by Jeff Lynne: his debut solo album Armchair Theatre (1990) (also remastered, with two new brand new tracks). It’s all part of the 40th anniversary of ELO, who’ve sold 50 million-plus records worldwide. These releases will all feature new packaging and the Live CD will come in a special ecolbook edition.

● ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA LIVE hasn’t been issued as an album until now. Taken from a 2001 performance for a PBS television special in Los Angeles at CBS Television City, the music was released as a DVD that year. The new hits-packed CD offers fans four tracks that weren’t on the DVD ("Secret Messages,” “Sweet Talkin’ Woman,” “Twilight,” and “Confusion”) as well as two new, unreleased studio tracks, “Out of Luck” (recorded in 2010) and “Cold Feet” (recorded in 1992). Although the singularly accomplished British singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer has always preferred the creative experience of the recording studio, he is a compelling performer who's always figured out ways to bring his distinctive widescreen musical universe to life onstage when he needed to.

● ELO’s ZOOM--unavailable for over 10 years--has been remastered and features a brand new track, "One Day" (recorded in 2004) as an added bonus, along with a live version of “Turn To Stone” from 2001’s ZOOM special on PBS. At the time of its original release in 2001, LYNNE hadn’t issued an ELO album since 1986’s Balance of Power. He called upon notable friends for a little help, enlisting contributions from longtime ELO member Richard Tandy as well as good friends George Harrison and Ringo Starr. The result is an album rich in that distinct ELO sound--classic LYNNE melodies and songwriting, foot-stomping rock anthems and sweet, sexy strings.

● LYNNE’s first solo album, 1990’s ARMCHAIR THEATRE, is a melting pot of different styles and influences featuring unexpected collaborations with LYNNE’s heroes and close friends, including Tom Petty, Richard Tandy and George Harrison. This reissue, unavailable for the last decade, includes two previously unreleased bonus tracks, “Borderline” and “Forecast” (both recorded in 1989). Interestingly, the album also features a few notable covers--“Don’t Let Go,” “Stormy Weather” and “September Song”--that demonstrated LYNNE’s flair for covers two decades before the release of 2012’s acclaimed Long Wave. Suitably, the core of the album is LYNNE himself, though he also left room for the contributions of a few friends and fellow travelers. Harrison contributed guitars and vocals on a number of tracks. Petty co-wrote “Blown Away,” a gorgeously romantic ballad. Longtime ELO band member Richard Tandy also contributed on keyboards and other instruments. ARMCHAIR THEATRE captures the musical genius of JEFF LYNNE when--perhaps more than ever before--the world was his stage.

Track listings:
Live (2013): Evil Woman, Showdown, Secret Messages, Livin’ Thing, Sweet Talkin’ Woman, Mr. Blue Sky, Can’t Get It Out Of My Head, Twilight, Confusion, Don’t Bring Me Down, Roll Over Beethoven, Out of Luck (Bonus), Cold Feet (Bonus)
Zoom (2001): Alright, Moment in Paradise, State of Mind, Just for Love, Stranger on a Quiet Street, In My Own Time, Easy Money, It Really Doesn’t Matter, Ordinary Dream, A Long Time Gone, Melting in the Sun, All She Wanted, Lonesome Lullaby, One Day (Bonus), Turn to Stone (Live From CBS Television City) (Bonus)
Armchair Theatre (1990): Every Little Thing, Don’t Let Go, Lift Me Up, Nobody Home, September Song, Now You’re Gone, Don’t Say Goodbye, What Would It Take, Stormy Weather, Blown Away, Save Me Now, Borderline (Bonus), Forecast (Bonus)

Kevin Ayers - R.I.P.

Kevin Ayers passed away on Monday 18th February 2013. He was discovered at his home in France, by a neighbour, on Tuesday 19th. It is believed he died in his sleep.

Possibly best remembered for his involvement with Canterbury legends Soft Machine. Having previously teamed up with Robert Wyatt and Hugh Hopper in the Wilde Flowers, Kevin switched over to bass to accomodate the incoming guitarist Daevid Allen and keyboardist Mike Ratledge.

Ayers performed on Soft Machine’s eponymous debut album released in late 1968, before embarking on a prolific solo career. His debut solo album Joy Of A Toy appearing just under a year later, after which he went on to release numerous solo albums until his final album Unfairground (2007).
Bernard MacMahon, director of Lo-Max Records, who released The Unfairground, tells the BBC: “He was the embodiment of that sixties ideal of creativity, freedom of speech and free love. He always made music entirely for his own pleasure and satisfaction – I don’t think he had any interest in being a star.

“Kevin was an artist and was plagued with massive insecurities about what he was doing. He would write material and people would hear what he was doing and would have to practically force him into the studio.”

Mojo reports that Ayers passed away peaceful on his sleep at home on Monday. He’d been living as a semi-recluse in recent years.

Kingcrow - IndieGoGo Campaign
Italian band Kingcrow needs your help to tour through USA as a opening act for Pain Of Salvation.

Here's the band statement:
"Hey Everyone!
As you're probably all aware by now, we have been selected as the support band for the upcoming PAIN OF SALVATION North American tour. We're extremely proud and super excited to be able to come back to North America to present our music, especially our new material from our recently released album "In Crescendo" (Sensory Records).

However, KINGCROW is still a developing band and we're nowhere near rockstardom just yet. Touring is very expensive for a band of our size. This entire North American tour will basically be coming out of our pockets. The band sees this as an opportunity to develop and grow our fanbase. Almost like going to college... we're making the investment now so that hopefully we'll be in a better place later on!

Considering that some of the costs we have are very steep, we decided to create this campaign to ask for your help on making it happen. We put together a very nice collection of different items, some one-of-a-kind, and opportunities related to KINGCROW. We are looking forward to hit the road and seeing everyone in the United States and Canada, so we're counting on you to help us make it happen. In return, we promise you a great show and some very cool KINGCROW swag that you likely won't find anywhere!

So... do you want to hang out with us on the road, or in our private studio in Rome? How about learn guitar on the very instruments used to record Phlegethon? Do you want to own one of our rare "Kingcrowtastrophe" shirts? Well, now you can!!!!!!

To give you guys a bit of an idea of what some of our costs will be, here's a very rough estimate:

Visas: $1,750
Flights: $4,200
Vehicle Rental: $2,600
Gas: $800
Hotels (after all, we're renting a small van): $1,400

As you see, the price keeps going up, and we're not really getting paid to do the tour, so it ain't easy... we set our goal low, as we don't have the highest expectations, but we set it in a way that even if we don't reach it, you'll still get your perks/rewards and we'll have "some" help at least.

So... if you're up for it and want to help KINGCROW, spread the word among your friends and come join us in May for great music, good times and a lot of good Italian wine!

See you on the road!
KINGCROW (Diego, Diego, Thundra, Francesco, Cristian, Ivan)"

To donate and to get more info click HERE. The prices range from $10 to $1.000 and the rewards vary.

Greg Lake - New Live Album
Hot on the heels of a successful solo tour of the US, UK and sold out tour of Italy, singer/songwriter Greg Lake just released a new live CD Songs Of A Lifetime (2013) on Esoteric Antenna / Manticore Records on February 25, 2013.
Capturing all the excitement of Greg Lake live in concert, Songs Of A Lifetime (2013) documents Greg's musical history, from his beginnings with King Crimson to super-stardom with ELP to his illustrious solo career, through stories and songs. Performing all his most popular songs including "21st Century Schizoid Man", "From The Beginning", "Still....You Turn Me On", "Lend Your Love To Me Tonight", "C'est la Vie" and "Karn Evil 9", as well as homages to Elvis Presley and The Beatles and Curtis Mayfield.

Hailed as an "artistic triumph" and "the experience of a lifetime", Songs Of A Lifetime (2013) gives new insight into Greg Lake and his influences, while showcasing in concert the influence his writing and voice have had not only for rock and roll, but contemporary music of all types.
In 2012 he embarked on a successful solo tour to perform 'Songs Of A Lifetime', a unique concert experience that was conceived whilst Greg was writing his autobiography. Greg explains, "From time to time during the writing of my autobiography, these songs would crop up that were in some way crucial or extremely important in the development of my career. These were not always songs that I had written myself, but sometimes songs that had been written and performed by other artists as well. I realized that what they actually represented was the journey that I had shared together with the audience over all these years. Behind these songs there were often stories to be told and it occurred to me that the same must be true for the audience as well. It was then that I thought of the idea of doing a series of very small intimate concerts where I could perform these songs and exchange stories with the audience, in a way reliving the time when the music we shared together really became part of our identity and in a way became the backdrop to our lives, a sort of tapestry I suppose."Says Greg, "This is not one of those boring shows sitting on a stool strumming folk songs, I purposely set out to make this show dynamic and entertaining with lots of drama and pathos, even some humour at times as well. Everyone feels part of the performance because we all bonded by the shared memories of our musical journeys together." The recordings on the 'Songs Of A Lifetime' CD were taken from a selection of shows performed on the 2012 tour.
The CD release coincides with the upcoming release of Greg Lake's autobiography, 'Lucky Man', and was inspired by it, but the two are not the same. The autobiography is NOT an audio recording of the show, but a narrative of Lake's experiences from childhood to the present, including never before revealed details, funny and poignant moments, and colourful facts of his amazing career as one of the world's leading and influential musicians, songwriters, vocalists and poets. The autobiography will be released both as an audio book read by the author and the complete print edition is anticipated at the end of the year. In support of the release plans for tours in Japan, Europe, South America, USA and Canada are currently in the works and will be announced shortly.

Greg Lake Songs Of A Lifetime (2013) CD can be purchased HERE.

Soft Machine Legacy - New Album

The new Soft Machine Legacy's studio album Burden Of Proof (2013) is available now through Moonjune Records.

Broad in its scope and ambition, but sensitive, probing and playful in its delivery, Burden Of Proof (2013) provides more than ample evidence that the legends remain at the top of their game, both individually and collectively. The group's two lead voices -- guitarist John Etheridge and saxophonist Theo Travis (currently touring worldwide with Steven Wilson)-- are in exceptionally fine form, whether gracefully enunciating a melody line in the pocket or dancing madly on the fringe. Also evident is the rock-solid anchoring of drummer John Marshall and bassist Roy Babbington, who keep proceedings tight and flowing throughout. Whether tip-toeing or stampeding, Soft Machine Legacy are as unified, focused and finely-honed as they've ever been -- delivering their crispest, most sparkling new material to date, in an undeniably inspired, unrelenting session. This is a fabulous, vital effort: a potent, impacting album encompassing the great spirit and aggressive pioneering approach championed by their namesake predecessors. For all fans of progressive music, the Canterbury scene, and the Softs, this superlative studio session is immediately 'essential' -- and easily the Legacy's finest, most high-reaching outing.

The album can be ordered in CD HERE or in digital formats HERE.

Spock's Beard - New Album Pre-Sale & Tour Dates

Spock’s Beard new album, Brief Nocturnes And Dreamless Sleep (2013) is their 11th album and the first with the new singer and drummer.

Alan Morse (guitar/vocals), Dave Meros (bass/keyboards/vocals), Ryo Okumoto (keyboards/vocals) are now joined Ted Leonard (vocals and guitars) and Jimmy Keegan (drums).
“Jimmy’s been our live drummer now for about 10 years,” says Meros. “But this is the first time he’s been in the studio with us. He’s very creative, as well as being a killer drummer, and he also has an amazing voice. So his presence has definitely brought an extra dimension to what we do. “Ted is a vocalist who’s is capable of many different vocal styles and there was always the possibility that he’d bring something very different to our sound, but he got the Spock’s Beard vibe straight away and it sounds like he’s been singing with us for years. He is also quite a good guitar player and songwriter and that is very evident on this new CD.”

The new album find the band collaboration with Neal Morse again. “Al and Neal are brothers, of course, and keep in regular contact with each other. What happened was that Al spoke to Neal and told him he was working on some ideas. Neal said he’d love to help, so Al went down to Nashville, where his brother’s now living, and they collaborated on the songs ‘Afterthoughts’ (for which Leonard later wrote the lyrics) and ‘Waiting For Me’. I have to admit that I was worried, because Neal might make us sound a bit “retro-Beard”. But the tracks turned out really well.”

Co-produced by Al Morse, Rich Mouser and John Boegehold (who once again also has a hand in the songwriting process as he has done since 2003), the album again sees Spock’s Beard stretching out into new musical areas. “This happens with every album we do. They each sound different from what has gone before. I think Brief Nocturnes And Dreamless Sleep (2013) is sonically superior to anything we’ve done before. Maybe part of the reason for this is that we spent the best part of a year working on it. Not in one stretch, but we’d go into the studio, do some recording, then take a break and return for some more work. That would give us a little time to live with the songs and have time to make changes when necessary.

Inevitably, there are some supreme, standout moments on the album. One of these is ‘Afterthoughts’, which is the latest in the ongoing series of songs in the ‘Thoughts’ cycle. “It’s quirky, with four-part vocal harmonies which are reminiscent of Gentle Giant.” And then there’s ‘Submerged’. “Ted had originally written and recorded this for his solo album ‘Way Home’ (released in 2007), and it’s a real stadium rocker. We’ve adapted it to our own sound, but still stayed faithful to Ted’s original arrangement. I wouldn’t say it’s strictly Prog Rock, but fits what we do and is a great song.”

As always, Spock’s Beard take fans on a irresistible journey. And Meros says the band are also fully aware of ensuring the songs aren’t too overproduced. “There was a stage when we went over the top with orchestrations, and that made it impossible to recreate the songs live without a lot of help. Now, we ensure everything you heard on the album can be played onstage.”

So, what does Meros hope fans will get out of Brief Nocturnes And Dreamless Sleep (2013)  “Well, some will be shocked that Neal is involved. But I hope they appreciate the musical surprises here. This album is quirky, edgy, reminding us a little bit of older times in the band, but also taking us further forward. I am proud of what we’ve done. I believe this is the way Spock’s Beard should sound in 2013.”
